Tournament Rules
- Travel Permits: All teams must supply a travel permit prior to the tournament. American teams are requested to submit a USA Hockey Travel permit while Canadian teams are requested to submit their league Travel permits. Your team may not begin play until your travel permit is handed in. If you are unsure of how to get your travel permit please ask your Club’s GM.
- Eligible Player: Only players whose names appear on the first game sheet are eligible to play. Affiliate players are allowed pending receipt of paperwork.
- Changing a call on a game sheet: The tournament has no authority or ability to overturn or change any penalty or suspension appearing on the game sheet.
- Body Checking: There is NO body checking in the U10, U11, U12 or U13 divisions. Body checking is permitted in the U14 & U15 divisions.
- OHF Minimum Suspension: The tournament will be played under OHF (Ontario Hockey Federation) rules regarding length of suspensions. The OHF website is located at www.ohf.on.ca. The tournament office will maintain a hard copy for viewing by carded team officials.
- Suspensions: Should a player or team official receive a suspension, the tournament will list the remaining game sheets showing the suspended player/team official as suspended. However, it is the responsibility of each team to ensure any player or team official who has been assessed a game suspension sits out the required amount of games as per OHF minimum suspension rules. Failure to comply will result in the offending team forfeiting the game, which will be recorded as a 1-0 loss.
- Tournament Office: The tournament office is for tournament officials and team staff only.
- Team Official Pre-Game Registration Process: One carded team official is required to check in at the tournament office one hour prior to each game to complete and verify the game sheet. Prior to the team’s first game, please ensure you submitted or bring with you:
A copy of your team’s travel permit
A copy of your team’s official roster
Note 1: Players and coaches do not have to sign the game sheet.
Note 2: Last team to complete the game sheet is responsible to bring the completed game sheet to the bench where it is to be given to the referees.
9. Jersey: The home team will wear light coloured jerseys.
10. Time between Game start-times: GTHL rules allow for a minimum three-hour spread between published start times. All teams must be ready to start round robin play in an 8am game and have their last game of the day begin at 9pm.
11. Period Lengths: All games shall have the following stop time periods (unless under curfew)
U10 - 12/12/12
U11 & U12 - 12/12/15
U13 & U14 - 10/15/15
U15 - 15/15/15
12. Points: Two points for a regulation victory; one point for a regulation tie; zero point for a regulation loss.
13. Scheduled Game Starts: The tournament reserves the right to alter start times and divisions. All teams must be ready to start playing fifteen (15) minutes ahead of schedule. Failure to comply may result in the offending team being assessed a two minute Delay of Game penalty to start the game.
14. Timeouts: NO timeouts are permitted during round robin play or round robin overtime. One 30 second timeout per team is allowed during all playoff games.
15. Curfew: Each round robin game has been allocated 80 minutes to play, including a flood before each game. If for any reason a game may not be completed on time, a member of the tournament staff may notify each team that a running clock will close out the remainder of the game.
16. Dressing Rooms: Dressing rooms are assigned by each arena and will be posted on the arena monitors. A team may not keep their dressing rooms between games. Separate dressing rooms will be available for female players - please make the tournament aware of your dressing room requirements 14 days prior to the tournament start.
17. Locks: The arenas “do not” supply locks for the dressing room. Please bring your own lock.
18. Pre-Game Warm-ups: Teams are provided with a three minute on ice warm-up prior to the start of each game. Players are NOT allowed on the ice for their pre-game warm-up until at least one referee is on the ice. The offending team will be given a two-minute minor penalty to start the game.
19. Pre-Game Handshakes: Teams shall line up at centre ice after warm-up and touch gloves.
20. On-Ice Game Officials: Two GTHL on-ice officials have been hired for each game. In the event a referee is late or is a no-show, GTHL rules allow for games to begin and end with one referee in the U10,U11,U12,U13 divisions. Two on-ice officials are required for the U14 and U15 divisions.
21. Off-ice Officials: A timekeeper has been fired for each game. In the event a timekeeper is late or is a no-show, tournament rules call for the home team to supply a timekeeper.
22. Forfeit: Offending teams will be assessed a 1-0 loss.
23. Mercy Rule: If a team has a five (5) goal spread or more anytime during the third period a running clock will commence. Stop time will resume if the differential is reduced to three (3) goals.
24. Protests: No protests will be entertained.

27. Two Team Tie Breaking Round Robin Formula: If two teams are tied in points for the purpose of advancing after the round robin, the following tiebreaker format shall be used:
A1: Winner of head to head
A2: Most round robin wins
A3: Highest Goal percentage (GF divided by GF + GA)
A4: Fewest goals against
A5: Most goals scored
A6: Fewest penalty minutes
A7: Single coin toss by a tournament director
28. Three or more team tie breaking round robin formula: If any step in this tiebreaking formula seeds just one team, that one team assumes the higher position. The tiebreaker will then continue on from that point to determine the seeding of the remaining teams. At no time will this formula revert back to using the two-team tiebreaker formula.

29. Overtime in all play-off games: If the game ends in a tie after regulation time has expired, teams will play three (3) on three (3) for three minutes stop clock. If a team takes a penalty, teams will play four (4) on three (3) - teams may not play with less than three skaters. Players may only change on the fly. If the game is still tied, a three man sudden death shoot out will decide the winner.
30. Three-man sudden death shoot-out: All skaters are to be sitting on their respective benches prior to the shootout. The referee will place tow pucks on opposite sides of the centre circle. The home teams puck shall be the puck closest to the player’s bench. Once the pucks are in place the first two shooters take their spot on their respective blue lines. On the whistle the shootout commences until a winner is declared. No skater may shoot more than once until all skaters have shot.
31. Penalties in the playoffs overtime and its effect on a sudden death shoot out: If a player takes a penalty in the three (3) on three (3) overtime and that penalty does not expire before the end of the overtime, the penalized player may not participate in the shoot out.
32. Tournament volunteers: Our volunteers have a passion for youth hockey and we could not run a successful tournament without them - please respect them!
